Detroit home owners are seeing double digit property value increases for the first time in almost 2 decades.

The news is evident in a variety of Detroit neighborhoods. What does this mean for the surrounding suburbs like the Grosse Pointe’s, Saint Clair Shores and Harrison Township? As a realtor serving the Grosse Pointe area it isn’t hard to believe, I often receive inquiries from home buyers that are either coming back home or moving here for a new job. Many are home buyers are beginning to add Detroit neighborhoods to their list of options again. Not only will the increased property tax base provide the city with additional funds for law enforcement, schools, parks and services but the home owners themselves will be able to “cash out” and re spend their profits in the local economy. With announcements like the FCA assembly plant adding 4,500 jobs being a home owner in the Grosse Pointes seems to have a very big upside in the coming years.
